Organic Modern: How to combine feng shui principles with the new 2023 design trend

If you haven’t yet heard of Organic Modern Interior style…where have you been living? Come out from under that beautifully formed natural rock and learn about how and why we should all be embracing the newest design trend in our homes in 2023.

Organic Modern perfectly fuses the popular styles of Boho chic warmth, Japandi minimalist and sleek Mid-Century modern. In doing so, it celebrates all that is natural, organic, sustainable and en trend. What better way to incorporate feng shui principles into your home whilst keeping bang up to date with style? Here are my top tips on how to get the look…

TURN ON THE NATURAL LIGHT

Maximize natural light in your space to create a connection with the outdoors. Large windows, skylights and open plan living not only represent the organic modern design but also invite positive energy into the space according to feng shui principles. The idea is to create a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.

BE INTENTIONAL WITH COLOURS

Neutral colors like whites, browns, and earthy tones are often used in organic modern design. These colors create a soothing and calming atmosphere. Avoid stark, bright white but instead opt for a warmer off white as a neutral base, then layer colours of nature gradually.

That said, it does not mean you cannot add pops of colour if that’s your thing. But choose intentionally. By that, I mean watery blues, foliage greens and sunny yellows will keep the feel of nature whilst introducing feng shui energies in abundance. Select colors that resonate with you whilst remaining true to your new design style.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

The look is clean lines and uncluttered. One key element of Organic Modern is the simple, minimalistic, uncluttered feel that enhances everything feng shui into your space. Clutter raises the stress hormone Cortisol and both feng shui and organic modern design are essentially stress free, calm and harmonious. Keep furniture low level and un-fussy (think Japandi style) and create distance between and around your items. Give them space to breathe.

ACCENTUATE YOUR CURVES!

Organic Modern design recognises that in nature, lines are very rarely straight! So furniture embraces curves where possible, fitting perfectly with the aesthetic principles of feng shui practices. Sweeping curved sofas, rustic wooden tables and the irregular shapes of plants and foliage all combine for the prefect organic feel. Next time you are outdoors, take a look around you at the shapes of nature and take time to source similar shapes in furniture, fixtures and accessories.

EMBRACE THE TEXTURES

Go natural with your textures by incorporating a mix of stone, leather, linen, wool, wood and marble. Keep in mind natures most beautiful materials and textures. Create tactility so that your guests are intrigued by every surface they pass, feel or sit on. Man-made carpets are replaced by woven rugs, and wooden floors. Even artwork depicts natural shapes to remind the viewer of the beauty of the outside world.

In conclusion – There is no greater feeling for the mind than being at one with nature. Organic Modern design brings the outside in, evoking a sense of calm, peace and relaxation everywhere you look. Surround yourself with feel good energy, embrace the feng shui and….ahhhh
